The word Za’atar refers both to the indigenous Middle Eastern plant and to the spice blend in which it’s a key ingredient. The fresh leaves are often mixed into salads with tomatoes, spring onions and lemon juice or incorporated into Za’atar bread dough before baking.
Our Za’atar spice mix is handcrafted by a women’s co-operative, where the dried Za’atar leaves are massaged with olive oil and blended with Persian thyme for an extra herbaceous kick. The result? A vibrant green powder that transforms everything from grilled meats and dips to marinades and flatbreads.
